1. What is a TR-069 ACS?
An TR-069 ACS is an Auto-Configuration Server in the broadband network
that is responsible for the TR-069 configuration of the Customer Premise
Equipment (CPE).
2. How should I choose a TR-069 ACS?
This is probably one of the hardest questions to answer. In
my opinion an ACS that is CPE agnostic is the best way to go. This means
an ACS that is not specific to one CPE Vendor. There are a few companies
that do make Auto-Configuration Servers (ACSs) that are not CPE manufacturers.
These companies generally work very hard to make sure that their TR-069
ACS supports as many, if not all, TR-069 devices.
3. Why should I worry about which TR-069
ACS I choose?
Yes TR-069 is a specification, but it is open to interpretation. As
I've been working with TR-069 CPE, I've personally noticed interpretations
to the specification. These items are being worked through at the DSL
forum, but interpretation can always occur. Because of this a CPE independent
TR-069 ACS is always the best, as they tend to test and work with as
many CPE providers as possible to create the most CPE agnostic TR-069
ACS they can.
4. What are the benefits of Managing
devices with a TR-069 ACS and not something like SNMP?
Really this is an easy question to answer. Yes SNMP is a technology
that is tried and true, but each company has it's own MIB, and SNMP
has been know to have security flaws. TR-069 was created to be device
agnostic, meaning that every and all CPE devices can be managed by one
TR-069 ACS no matter what the manufacturer etc.
5. What benefits can I get by using
a TR-069 ACS to manage my TR-069 Devices?
There are many benefits to managing a CPE device with an ACS
using TR-069, they include:
